At Radiance we will carry out an initial detailed private one to one consultation which includes a complete medical history, examination of your areas of concern and a discussion of the best course of treatment for you. It provides you with an opportunity to discuss your concerns and expectations. Our doctor will carefully inject small quantities of Botulinum toxin into the areas you find bothersome. We will use the required amount of injection to reduce the wrinkles and give you a fresh, rejuvenated natural appearance. This appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. Its quick, minimally invasive and with little downtime. If you have not had anti-wrinkle injections in the past it is often advisable to take time to consider the treatment options. Photographs are taken before and two weeks after treatment to allow you to see the beneficial results of the injections. A second consultation is provided free of charge two weeks later to look at the effect of the injections and to make sure you are happy with the effect.
Anti-wrinkle injections are very safe to use and are suitable for most men and women. It should be avoided if you have any of the following:
- Pregnant, trying to conceive or breast feeding
- Muscle problems
- A neurological condition
- A previous reaction to an anti-wrinkle treatment
- Taking a medication to thin your blood
Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the nerve impulse to the muscles of your face that, over time, cause wrinkles and permanent lines to form. These muscles will gradually relax, giving your face a smoother look. Small amounts of anti-wrinkle injections over time provide great benefit to subtly relax the underlying facial muscles and freshen the appearance. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smooths out and the lines begin to fade. Starting early is one of the best preventative strategies. The injections are temporary and wear off over the following months.
Anti-wrinkle treatment should last between 3 to 4 months. Injections tend to last longer when people have not had treatment before. However, they may not last as long for men or people who smoke. Gradually over time you will notice the effects reduce, the muscle action return to normal and the wrinkles begin to reappear. Anti-wrinkle injections are an excellent complement to a comprehensive skin care regimen.
Anti-wrinkle injections are used to treat horizontal forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. These are the common areas for the development of dynamic lines as we age. The forehead and frown areas are treated at the same time for best results.
You may begin to notice results within 48 to 72 hours but you will need to allow two weeks for the full effects.
Our clients report a slight pin prick with each injection which is due to the small needle involved. You may be a little tender straight after the injection but this will resolve quickly.
Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe treatment. Most people will be able to return to work immediately. The side effects are mild and transient. They include, swelling, tenderness and bruising at the injection site. These usually resolve quickly. Bruising is usually minimal and may take a few days to settle. Occasionally a mild headache may develop. This generally resolves within two days. Rare complications such as an eyelid droop or brow drop can occur but our doctors make every effort to avoid these. Should these rare events occur be reassured that they will resolve as the effect of botulinum toxin wears off.
You should not have treatment if you have a social event coming up. Postpone treatment if a cold sore develops or discuss this with one of our doctors. Avoid alcohol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen and aspirin in the days before treatment as they will increase the risk of bruising. - Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment.
- Make up must not be worn for 24 hours
- Avoid rubbing the injection areas for 12 hours post treatment so that the botulinum toxin does not move.
- Avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, the use of steam rooms and saunas for 24 hours
- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol for 24 hours to reduce bruising
- Avoid a facial or massage for 48 hours
